    Selecting the earrings that will look best on you.<\/h2>\n

    Select your favorite shaped earrings from your jewelry box, these should be your go-to earrings. Make sure the style you are considering doesn’t deviate too much in shape or length, unless you are considering a new look.<\/p>\n

    Most websites will include the approximate length the earrings will hang at. The better sites also include the length of the earring design and the width in their description of the item. \u00a0At Perfect Details we painstakingly measure each earring. We include the dimensions in our description underneath the picture, as well as in our bullet points on the right-hand side. \u00a0It is critical to locate this information on any website before you start the decision making process.<\/p>\n

    Determining earring size<\/h2>\n

    1. Select earrings from your jewelry box of different lengths. Choose ones that are similar in length to what you want in the earring you are shopping for.<\/li>\n
    2. Measure the length and width of each item you selected.<\/li>\n
    3. Line up the earrings by length so that you can reference the lengths while shopping.<\/li>\n
    4. Now, when you read the product description, you\u2019ll have a physical earring next to you to reference for size. \u00a0This process should limit surprises when your package arrives, as well as save you a trip to UPS store.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Friction back posts<\/h3>\n

      This type of back is almost always used for stud earrings, and larger backs are used for heavier and longer dangle and drop earrings.\u00a0 This type of clasp has a flat plate with a center hole for the pin and curled up butterfly wings that grip the post in place with friction.\u00a0 The larger the earring, the larger the clasp should be.<\/p>\n

      Large back or cushy backs should be used to support a large drop or\u00a0chandelier earring. The large back helps heavier, longer earrings to hang straight. \u00a0Also referred to as \u201cmonster-backs, a \u201ccushy\u201d back or larger back also adds comfort to heavy earrings. Best yet, there are now \u201cno slippage backs\u201d as shown below that also add comfort and prevent forward slippage.<\/p>\n

      Pin location<\/h2>\n

      It’s also important to look at pin location and post size when purchasing longer earrings with a friction-back post.\u00a0 A center pin location allows for part of the post to rest above your piercing, a high pin location means the earring is going to hang straight down from the hole location.<\/p>\n

Be-Je Designs hoops<\/a> have a snap-down clasp that creates the illusion that the earring is threaded through your earlobe. Manjusha geometric dangle earrings<\/a> have a top pin location, so the earring will hang from the piercing (this is comfortable for most people, as long as the earring is light-weight, which these are). Classic large crystal posts by Catherine Popesoco<\/a>. These have a center pin so the earring will encircle your piercing. Shown with a classic butterfly back, although many customers prefer a cushy-back for more support.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

      Hooks<\/h3>\n

      Hooks are great from a comfort perspective for lightweight earrings. \u00a0Heavier earrings that have a hook will require a metal or rubber holder to prevent them from falling forward and pulling on the ear lobe. These are referred to as bullet posts or rubber stoppers.\u00a0 Pictured below is a rubber stopper.\u00a0 These work well and are not noticeable, even if your hair is short or swept up.<\/p>\n

      Lever-back clasps<\/h3>\n

      Lever-back clasps are personally my favorite from a comfort and security perspective. \u00a0Generally, these are used for lightweight earrings. \u00a0If a heavy earring has a lever-back clasp, it will tend to fall forward and pull on your ear lobe.\u00a0 The same rubber stoppers mentioned above to use with hooks, can also be used with lever-backs to prevent forward slippage.<\/p>\n

      Different shapes and sizes of earrings with a lever-back clasp from La Vie Parisienne by Catherine Popesco<\/a>. They are all comfortable to wear as there is only a single D-ring between the design and clasp. When earrings with a lever-back clasp have a large gap between the design and clasp, they will pull on your ear and not be as comfortable. This is when it’s a good idea to use a small rubber stopper or surgical tape. Look for beading or design features between the main design and clasp if you are concerned with pulling on your earlobe.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

      How an earring hangs depends on the shape of your ear lobe, and where your ear is pierced.\u00a0 And of course, everyone is different.<\/p>\n

      We always tell brides<\/a> or anyone looking for special earrings<\/a> for an event to wear a style and size earring you generally wear. \u00a0However, if you want something special and beyond glamorous for your wedding or event, as most of us do, we suggest wearing them around the house and getting used to them. \u00a0Just like shoes, you break them in a little bit first. \u00a0Same goes for earrings if they are different from what you are used to.<\/p>\n
